Tanzania Safari: Southern & Northern Circuits

Experience the wildlife Tanzania  safari in among the biggest parks in Southern and Northern Circuit of Tanzania, enjoy game drive and boat safari in Nyerere National Park, game drive in Ruaha National Park and more wild experience in Mikumi National Park with lunch boxes during activities, overnight stay in lodges. In order to enjoy this safari, one needs to spend like 2 weeks (14 days) in Tanzania for easy enjoyment of the tour at your own pace.

On arrival, you will be picked up from the airport in Dar es Salaam and drive to Selous game reserve (Nyerere National Park) with lunches at restaurant in Kibiti, take a short break then proceed with the drive. You may arrive in late afternoon and check in at your booked accommodation for some snacks, then leave for evening boat drive at Rufiji River. This short boat ride along the Rufiji River is ideal for spotting Hippos, Crocodiles and plentiful different bird species including commonly the African Fish Eagle, Malachite Kingfisher, Goliath Heron, African Skimmer and Boehm’s Bee-Eater and many more. Accommodation facilities in Selous game reserve include; Kiba Point Selous Lodge, Selous Serena Camp, Siwandu Camp, Beho Beho, Lake Manze Tented Camp and many others. After the boat ride, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

The 2nd day after having breakfast, get your packed lunch boxes and get into the game reserve to enjoy a full day game drive. On this drive, you will get a chance of spotting great animals including all the great favorites lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, zebras and all the other major species like hunting wild dogs and also enjoy a great variety of bird species with wonderful scenery and varied topography: wetlands, dry grassland, light acacia forest and higher ground with long views of far-off mountains. Among the most frequently seen bird species in the Selous Game Reserve are: the mosque swallow, the brown-breasted barbet, purple-banded sun bird, Mangrove kingfishers, Von der Decken’s horn bill, African skimmers, a pearl-spotted owl, palm-nut vulture, Layard’s black-headed weavers, freckled night jars, grey Penduline among others.

Enjoy your packed lunch and time to rest. Your guide will select a location with shade and water nearby to watch the animals coming to drink a place with a clear view all round so that no predator can creep up unseen. During evening you will be back at your accommodation for sunset and dinner.

On the 3rd day, you will be transferred from Nyerere National Park to Mikumi National Park. After breakfast, check-out at lodge, get ready with your lunch boxes and meet your driver to start your journey to Mikumi National Park. This drive may take about 6-7 hours and you may arrive in the afternoon or evening for a game drive. In the park, you will be welcomed by the herd of impala, elephants, Masai giraffes, lions, wildebeests, buffaloes and many more. After the game drive, check-in at your booked accommodation for dinner and overnight stay. On the 4th day after having breakfast, go for a morning game drive in Mikumi National Park. Inside the park, you will spot many animals such as lions, eland, hartebeest, buffalo, wildebeest, giraffe, zebra, elephants and many more. Also, you will stop for lunches at the picnic site before proceed with game drive to hippos and crocodiles pool and during evening you will return to the lodge for refreshment, dinner and overnight stay.

On the 5th day after having breakfast, drive to Ruaha National Park with your lunch boxes via Iringa town and you will be passing through country side and have nice view of scenery, beautiful valleys and mountains. After arrival you will go directly to the park and enjoy afternoon and evening game drive where you will spot animals such as lions, cheetahs, leopards, water bucks, bush bucks, impalas, cheetahs, elands, gazelles, wildebeest and several others and then drive to your booked accommodation facility for dinner and overnight stay. On the 6th day, you may decide to have leisure time at lodge after having breakfast. Later in the afternoon after having your lunch, then you embark on a scenic boat cruise along the Ruaha River. This river flows through the Usangu wetlands and the Ruaha National Park east into the Rufiji River and is one of Tanzania’s most important river basins. During the boat cruise, you will discover crocodiles, hippos and a vibrant array of bird species such as horn bills, the endemic Ruaha red billed horn bill, kingfishers, sun birds, black collared lovebirds, ashy starlings and many more. You will observe a lot of magnificent creatures in their natural habitat. Return to your accommodation facility for dinner and sleepovers.

On the 7th day, you will rise with the first light of dawn for the highlight of your adventure, the awe-inspiring hot air balloon safari. Witness the park come alive as your balloon gently ascends offering a breathtaking panoramic vista. While in the balloon flight, you will explore a tapestry of endless savanna plains dotted with herds of zebras, wildebeest and gazelles stretching as far as the eye can see.

After an hour of floating through the crisp morning air, celebrate your unforgettable experience with a delightful bush breakfast served amidst the scenic African wilderness and after return to your lodge for lunch and a relaxing brunch. After lunch, you will venture deeper into the heart of the park traversing diverse landscapes in search of iconic wildlife and you will discover elephants, lions, giraffes and a plethora of other savanna inhabitants.

On the 8th day, you will enjoy a morning game drive, relax and reminisce about your remarkable encounters at your lodge before departing Ruaha. Later transfer the Iringa city with an en-route lunch. The 9th day will be for transferring from Iringa city to Arusha via Dodoma. Lunch will be had on the way and you may arrive in evening in case when you use road transport. The 10th day will be for departing to Tarangire National Park. The park is also known as “The Paradise of Elephants”. The park impresses with its famous concentration of wild animals, especially elephants, and is also one of the best destinations for bird watching in East Africa. The park has remarkable attractions with large groups of elephants, spectacular natural beauty of the savannah landscape and magnificent majestic baobabs. Over 550 different bird species have been counted in the park, several of which are endangered. Explore the park and later check-in at your preferable lodge for dinner and sleepover. The 11th day you will depart for Lake Manyara National Park with a picnic lunch for a full day game drive. As you enter the national park, lush forests of Acacia and Mahogany trees begin to set the mood for what is waiting ahead. The game drive will go on till evening with a small break for picnic lunch. During the game drive watch out for buffaloes, giraffes, impalas, baboons and the blue monkeys. Another spectacle of Lake Manyara National Park is the tree climbing lions, however spotting them is a game of luck. In the right season, you can see the shoreline turning pink with millions of flamingos flocking there. Later, you will check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. The 12th day after having breakfast head towards the Serengeti National Park via the beautiful high lying farmland of Karatu and the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Leaving the highlands behind, you descend into the heart of wild Africa, the Serengeti National Park with its endless plains rolling into the distance as far as the eye can see. You can head to the central park area known as the Seronera area one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park featuring the Seronera River which provides a valuable water source to this area and therefore attracts wildlife well representative of most of the Serengeti’s species. You may arrive in Seronera area in time for lunch and enjoy an afternoon game drive. During the game drive, you will spot a number of animals such as Lions, Leopards, Buffaloes, African elephant, Rhinoceros among others. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay. The 13th day after breakfast, you will have a morning game drive in Serengeti National Park. Later depart for Ngorongoro Conservation Area with picnic lunch. Ngorongoro Crater is the largest collapsed volcanic crater in the world and 14 kilometers of isolated natural beauty. Ngorongoro Crater is surrounded by a ring of extinct volcanoes and the floor, dotted with watering holes, shelters some 30,000 animals. The eventful day comes to an end with a heavy dinner and a good night’s rest in your accommodation.

On the last day (14th day) of your safari, you will have an early start. Finishing up with a quick breakfast, check-out at the lodge and descent into the crater floor. The Ngorongoro Crater is the world’s largest inactive, intact and unfilled volcanic caldera. It has a massive floor of about 260 sq kms with a depth of over 2000 feet. The 5-hour game drive on the crater floor will show you a lot of animal action. Keeping the camera ready is definitely recommended. The African elephant, buffalo, Black rhino, Hippos, Hyenas, Cheetahs and Lions are found in plenty. Post the picnic lunch at the beautiful Hippo pool, you will begin a steep ascend to the top exit of the crater. Meet your driver and embark onto your journey to Kilimanjaro airport (Arusha city) to catch up with your flight back home and that will be the end of your northern and southern safari in Tanzania.
